Wash Water Management

gestion eaux de lavage radis chaine montage

What is it?

Since December 2020, all farms who wash fruits or vegetables are subject to the Regulation respecting the regulatory scheme applying to activities on the basis of their environmental impact (REAFIE). That said, depending on the surface cultivated for the produce to be washed, and where the wash water is discharged, the requirements may change: ministerial authorization, declaration of conformity or even exemption.

In concrete terms, the REAFIE establishes specific norms and requires that farms affected submit, when required, a file to the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP).

This file must include, among other things:

  • The plans and specifications of your installations
  • A report, signed by an engineer, describing your washing process and wastewater discharges

To verify if your wastewater complies with regulations, the MELCCFP will take into account its concentration of suspended solids, its degree of biodegradability and its temperature, among other things.

What’s in it for me?

As a producer, you are already doing a lot to protect the environment. With REAFIE, you are continuing your role as a protector of water and ecosystems.

To facilitate the new regulations’ implementation, the MELCCFP will determine, for each operation, the requirements and standards it must meet.

Finally, subsidies from the Prime-Vert program and the Programme Services-conseils are available to help implement these new practices.

We help you manage your wastewater and comply with the new regulation.
